How do you collect up the hazy, light filled magic of a dream and stitch it up into something real? I don’t know the answer but apparently Kit Willow does. Her spring / summer 2013 collection was titled ‘Dream Possesion’, and what started out a fairly subdued London fashion week (LFW) offering of signature Willow-style pieces in a palette of creamy oatmeal quickly transitioned into an array of outfits that sunk further and further into that golden cloud of a summer’s daydream.
Straddling a space between fantasy and reality, Willow’s collection was reimagining the concept of lingerie as outerwear. She did it in unexpected ways: cutaway bustiers visible beneath semi-transparent fabrics, or merged with tops to blur the line of where lingerie ends and outerwear begins. Dresses with draped detailing were similarly strong and yet dreamy. Finally, a luminous fabric emerged that shimmered like a mirage across the body, liquid and shining, the deepest part of the dream yet which really did have you questioning whether such a fabric could be part of your reality.
