After the first time we sat down to interview Zac Posen, Daniel described him thus: Cultured. Personable. Articulate. Young. That was in 2008, closer to the start of Posen’s flourishing career. It was obvious, even then, that youth to Zac Posen means something different than it does to other designers. It’s fun, but not frivolous. Youth, by his carefully-groomed standards, is inextricably linked to a degree of sophistication.
His lower-priced line, Z Spoke, is the epitome of that youthful sophistication. Posen’s view has always been that spending less doesn’t have to mean that the product is compromised, and as Posen has matured so too has this little sister line to become something that the young can wear to feel more sophisticated, and all other ages can wear to feel more youthful. Fall / winter 2012 has plenty to offer in that regard: immaculately tailored suiting to pared-back examples of Posen’s eveningwear.
