BLK DNM was founded in 2011 and is helmed by designer Johan Lindeberg, though you may know him better as “J. Lindeberg,” where he was creative director from 1996 to 2007 (after serving as CEO of Diesel North America). His latest project — it’s pronounced “Black Denim” by the way — is “inspired by how I like to dress,” Lindeberg told Women’s Wear Daily. That translates into a European aesthetic filtered through downtown Manhattan: leather jackets, jeans, shirts, and tailored pieces in whites, blacks, and grays. An eyewear collaboration with Moscot and a flagship store on Lafayette Street have helped this newcomer achieve a visibility befitting a brand that’s been around much longer.
