Among Eddie Bauer’s accomplishments: The first quilted down jacket (patented in 1940), and the B-9 Flight Parka (made for the U.S. Army in 1942). And that’s in addition to the over 20 patents Bauer took out between 1934 and 1937. Though Bauer left the company in the '60s, that tradition of pioneering and crafting some of the best equipment and apparel for nature enthusiasts — from sleeping bags and tents to snow boots and parkas — continues to this day.
