Fjallraven

In 1950, a 14-year-old boy named Åke Nordin was preparing for a trek in the mountains of Northern Sweden, but he was feeling particularly uninspired by the backpacks available to him, which had a nasty tendency of bunching up and riding too low. His solution: A self-made wooden frame that improved the distribution of weight across his back and allowed him to carry more weight comfortably. Ten years later, the ingenuity that lead to that frame — a modified version of which is now standard throughout the industry — lead to the start of a now-global outdoor outfitter called Fjällräven. Named for the artic fox, a small predator native to the Swedish mountains, the company has been devoted to innovative design, smart functionality, and durable gear for more than 50 years
