In many ways Helmut Lang’s spring 2012 collection epitomised all we’ve come to love about sporty fashion in 2012: sleek, functional, minimal yet chic for its asymmetrical details. The collection look book doesn’t just showcase those sporty pieces, it demonstrates another of their strengths: the ability to make them a base for spring layering. Away from the runway, sporty crop tops don’t need to be…

The new go-to girl for sports-themed shoots? Candice Swanepoel maintains the toned, tanned limbs to pull off that title – one of the many upsides to having a contract with Victoria’s Secret, one would suppose. Last time it was a shoot by Terry Richardson for Harper’s Bazaar, now it’s this particularly bronzed looking photo series for February’s issue of Vogue China.

Tom Ford, though oft quoted as being largely anti-fashion week, will show his spring 2012 womenswear collection at London Fashion Week this September. Though not the first time he’s shown during London Fashion Week, this year presents a marked difference: his presentation on the official schedule. I’d certainly not consider myself a model, not by any stretch of the imagination. I know what a model is, and I’m not one of them. There’s a quality that great photographers possess, and Lyndel Yeo has it. She connects with her subjects; she brings the best out of them. While great photography and that particular talent aren’t extricably linked it’s a combination that means the resulting photos go beyond being just technically sound. In this particular series Yeo photographed Taylah Verney – who you may remember from our own double-knot…

Alla Kostromicheva‘s strong features – her square jaw, dimpled chin, and prominent blonde brows – make her the perfect candidate for everything military and masculine. Daniel Jackson photographed this little series, which features pieces from Melanie Ward’s Blouson Noir label, for the Spring 2010 issue of i-D.

Ten models, a dark dream, and a poison apple. Fashion’s obsession with all things Gothically dark and a little bit twisted is staying its course. Photographer Daniel Jackson shot this editorial for i-D Magazine in black and white, featuring many an outfit inspired by fetish fashion, including leather clothing and this wickedly studded corset which is like the one worn by Rihanna.

Though the season is still well ahead of us, the international Spring/Summer 2009 catwalks have been and gone. And we loved them! To see the photographs of Spring/Summer 2009 fashion weeks on Fashionising.com, select…
