It’s sort of refreshing when you see subscriber covers. They’re free of the masses of text that clutter up the covers on the shelves, and can have a beautifully minimalist look about them. What’s also refreshing is Julia Stegner covered in the volumes of fluffy red that makeup Alexander McQueen’s fall 2012 gown, complete with futuristic metal glasses. It’s refreshing because she’s not wearing it…

Trash magazines get turned on by the thought of it: issues of their titles emblazoned with headlines such as ‘stars without their makeup.’ Oh, how they chortle. One week their covers are dedicated to celebrities who diet too much, and the next week they mock anyone who they haven’t been able to previously lampoon by focussing on the fact that they’re ageing – shock horror…

When they’re not there to shock you or provoke you or provide you with a simple styling instruction, fashion editorials are – let’s face it – about making you want to be someone else. Greg Kadel’s black and white shoot of Julia Stegner strikes me as just one of those shoots. It’s the hair. Messy, blunt-fringed, thick, sexy. It’s the white clothing. Lace, leather, sheer,…

The Victoria’s Secret show 2011 will be on the runway in a matter of hours. Anticipated for it’s energy, entertainment value and star power as much as for it’s lingerie, the question isn’t just what will be on the catwalk but who. So who can we expect to see bounding down the runway this year, wings fluttering, eyelashes batting, kisses blowing with targeted determination towards…

Were it not for the cars in the background to date it against, this photo could be from another era. Julia Stegner‘s outfit is somewhere between the sweet ‘60s and hippie ‘70s, from the oversized sunglasses and floppy hat to the casual leather sandals. And it all comes down to the polish: there’s not a hair out of place, not an accessory that’s too much…

Between the Rapunzel-haired Julia Stegner and a long-locked Magdalena Frackowiak Muse magazine have demonstrated a key point surrounding 2011′s hair trends: the pixie may be back, but so is its antithesis, super-long flowing hair. Magdalena’s shoot goes by the name Too Pure, the all-white clothing, crucifixes and veils contrasted (not so surprisingly) by nudity, transparent fabrics, and short hems.

Too Beautiful. The title of this pictorial sums it up rather well. But beauty comes in many forms, and this time it’s the enigmatic, silent beauty that art and history paint in characters like Lady Godiva, Lorelei, The Lady of Shalott. Such is the appeal of flowing long hair when paired with the right styling (and an ample dose of Renaissance-like nudity). What we perhaps…

Never let it be said that Victoria’s Secret don’t do detail. Take this broad view of Anja Rubik at the 2010 Victoria’s Secret fashion show, and then view the close up shots after the jump.

Ah natural beauty. That ability to look gorgeous in nothing but a dusting of eyeshadow and a pair of jeans. That about sums up this shoot of Julia Stegner for L’Officiel Hommes China. Milan Vukmirovic was the photographer who didn’t have to work too hard to make Julia look great. Click on the image to view the full shoot
