The fact that the MET Gala was punk themed didn’t stop Katy Perry from avoiding the look altogether. Her wearing of Dolce & Gabbana pieces was exactly as the catwalk intended. Not so for Giovanna Battaglia, who opted for a golden crown of safety pins.

Some brands stick to being about fashion, and some present themselves as lifestyle brands. Leave it to Katy Perry to simultaneously conform with and defy the expectations of festival fashion. She had the bared legs and exposed midriff boxes ticked courtesy a Dolce & Gabbana print combo, but rather than erring to the side of boho, her Coachella look was something akin to vintage tropicana pin-up.
