Either people haven’t read The Great Gatsby, don’t get it, or just don’t care: the contradictory nature of all those opulent themed Gatsby parties being thrown right now. Plus, Audrey Hepburn’s much admired street style, and – post Met Gala – the question of punk-as-fashion. After the break, your round-up of things to see, do, read (and maybe even drink) this weekend.

Picture an evening gown with plunging neckline and floor-sweeping hem. Now add some tough accessories: an upper-ear cuff, a spiked tiara, a studded clutch, a sharp talon ring… any of these things can change the mood of the look instantly and completely. And yet, they maintain a luxuriousness, adding an edge rather than necessarily taking over. This is punk as fashion statement, not as subculture.…

Interpreting the theme of punk can yield a great many different looks – as this year’s Met Gala proved. The fact that the MET Gala was punk themed didn’t stop Katy Perry from avoiding the look altogether. Her wearing of Dolce & Gabbana pieces was exactly as the catwalk intended. Not so for Giovanna Battaglia, who opted for a golden crown of safety pins.

It wasn’t hard to adore every inch of Dolce & Gabbana’s autumn 2013 collection when it took to its Milanese catwalk. And it was just as easy to adore it at the MET Gala as the gilt mosaic collection crowned Katy Perry.

Cara Delevingne’s look from the MET Gala‘s Punk: Chaos to Couture opening could be described as something of a Morticia Addams one were it not for the padlocked, mesh clutch bag she had in hand. All plunge and studs, the model took to the Gala’s red carpet decked out in Burberry.

Safety pins, piercings and studs. This year’s MET Gala was a punk laden affair, all in the name of the The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring 2013 exibition, Punk: Chaos to Couture. And from that formula of iconic punk elements, Sienna Miller opted for studs and a pierced-up ear wrap. Appearing on the Gala’s red carpet with partner Tom Sturridge, Burberry…
