This season, with the somewhat colder weather still present, hats are a much needed piece in the transition from winter to spring. Whether it is a fedora hat, a beanie or even a furry Ushanka, owning some stylish headgear can bring you a whole lot closer to looking chic. Here are my top five examples of marvellous millinery:

I dare say not much changes between one Victoria’s Secret swim look book and the next, but you’re at least guaranteed a glimpse into a world where beaches and endless and sunshine is eternal, a world populated by the athletic physical perfection that is Candice Swanepoel. But while the idealistic weather conditions and beachy flowing hair are constants in this masterfully created world, the swimwear…

When GQ Spain enlisted Alvaro de la Herrán to direct a video based on Fifty Shades of Grey, surely not even they could have anticipated something so brazenly erotic and yet so softly filmed. “It’s clear to me,” says Herrán, “that in a contemporary sexual relationship a kiss hides more than a tongue.” Alexander Tikhomirov shoots beautiful bodies where tribal jewellery and tattoos are the…

When you’re a men’s magazine like Esquire, you don’t need any particular excuse to get Adriana Lima undressed any into your pages. Esquire UK’s May 2013 issue celebrates the beauty of the Victoria’s Secret Angel in a black and white shoot by Matt Jones.

Queen Elizabeth I had a penchant for pairing John Lennon glasses with her Tudor ruff, and Henry VIII was secretly a bit of a handyman. That is, in the slightly surreal world of Fabitoria if not in the history books. Fabitoria (named of its designers, Fabiana and Victoria) create intriguing mashings of prints of things that might not naturally go together. And, courtesy a little…

There are a few elements that – collectively – make this shoot of model Marine a powerful and visually stunning one. There’s the hair and makeup by Chisato Arai, with looks that highlight first a blushing cheek, then a dramatic smudge of kohl, and finally a darkly romantic burgundy lip. Then there’s the styling by Marianne Malafosse that dresses Marine in clouds of black tulle…

In a surreal space furnished by cubes and spikes, model Anastacia seems at once an alternative future vision and a throwback to the hapless damsels of 1920′s black and white horror flicks. Katya Tsyganova’s grainy, desaturated images – with their shadows and black billowy veils and ghostly double-exposures – have a cinematic quality that’s heightened by the unnerving, lethal-looking, fetishist spiked designs by Victoria Prokhorova.
