When life turns into a monochrome adventure

Words have the power to seduce and hypnotize, to alter realities and shift perspectives, to make order out of chaos and add an extra layer of intensity wherever needed. The same can be said about an unexplored part of the world that helps life morph into a never-ending adventure, about a certain kind of glimpse in the eye that makes one dream until the shadows…

Crazy-cool styling: layered contrasts that morph into art

Textures belonging to different worlds colliding only to create a metaphorical chaos, psychedelic prints clashing together in absolute manner, a parade of brazen colours and conflicting silhouettes redefining impeccability; there’s an art to overlapping contradictions in perfect harmony that’s why there’s a tremendous beauty defining the eclectic styling. Photographed by Andrew Fearman, the layered contrasts morph into art.

Costume National Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2014

Before you entered Costume National’s show, you entered a flowchart. Yes, a literal one, a room-sized piece of art with black squares on white walls offering choices, if-or statements, and conceptual contradictions. A performance artist masked in a leotard of black anonymity contorted herself into shapes where limbs became markers, legs akimbo seeming to point discriminately at words on the wall. Ennio Capasa was thinking…

Cara Delevingne beautiful after Burberry

Chaos about sums up the backstage area after today’s Burberry show. After all, the likes of Harry Stiles and Bradley Cooper were in the house causing female frenzies at every turn. Escaping the crowds, Cara Delevingne looked calm and collected post-show when she posed for this shot.

Antonio Marras Spring / Summer 2014

Antonio Marras’ catwalks always take place in a hell of a setting. They are catwalks staged amongst the magic of impossible settings. For summer 2014‘s catwalk, the underground setting took in mirror and stain-glass lined walls and doorways outside which a temporary forest hosted violin playing fauns. Read this and think not of the likes of Alice in Wonderland – Marras’ summer 2014 collection drew…

The Passion of Thom Browne

If you have heard of Thom Browne, chances are you know more about his eccentric menswear line and less about the otherworldly qualities he brought to the womenswear scene ever so graciously. Not one to trade incitement for ethics and solemnity, it’s no wonder Browne gained the title of America’s most provocative designer. Photographer An Le managed to capture the man behind the name, behind…

See, do, read, check out: a Fashioniser’s guide to the weekend

Either people haven’t read The Great Gatsby, don’t get it, or just don’t care: the contradictory nature of all those opulent themed Gatsby parties being thrown right now. Plus, Audrey Hepburn’s much admired street style, and – post Met Gala – the question of punk-as-fashion. After the break, your round-up of things to see, do, read (and maybe even drink) this weekend.

Cara Delevingne is your studded vamp

Cara Delevingne’s look from the MET Gala‘s Punk: Chaos to Couture opening could be described as something of a Morticia Addams one were it not for the padlocked, mesh clutch bag she had in hand. All plunge and studs, the model took to the Gala’s red carpet decked out in Burberry.

Sienna Miller is Burberry’s punk at the MET Gala

Safety pins, piercings and studs. This year’s MET Gala was a punk laden affair, all in the name of the The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring 2013 exibition, Punk: Chaos to Couture. And from that formula of iconic punk elements, Sienna Miller opted for studs and a pierced-up ear wrap. Appearing on the Gala’s red carpet with partner Tom Sturridge, Burberry…
