Awakening the robot: future beauty in Dew

Awakening seems a fitting title for Jacky Suharto’s shoot for Dew Magazine’s Sci-Fi issue. It’s a common theme of the genre: robots being awakened with the spark of consciousness, becoming self-aware or taking on human characteristics. Though the question is framed with technology it circles perpetually back to ourselves, leaving us to wonder what being human really means.

Future projections in DEW magazine

Science fiction as a genre isn’t just about entertainment, it’s about envisaging something that doesn’t yet exist but might well become a reality. In crafting stories about the future and the things that might exist in it, authors and filmmakers can create self-fulfilling prophesies: ideas for inventions that the world then seeks to bring to fruition. To put it another way, science fiction is surprisingly…

DEW Magazine’s sci-fi cover

It’s a topic after my own heart, so needless to say I’m looking forward to seeing what’s inside the pages: DEW Magazine presents their 8th issue, the SCI-FI issue. The cover was shot by Andy Long Hoang, styled by Tinashe Musara and features model Richard Deiss.

An ever-present link of light to life

The presence of light in photography is a masterful symbol of life in terms of its applicability to a universal audience… it has a different meaning and interpretation to each individual and therefore stirs the mind to think in different directions. In a shoot for Dew Magazine, photographer Julia Blank creates an ethereal look promoting softness and enigmatic nature behind femininity. The notable styling by…

7 looks of the season, 7 interpretations from DEW Magazine: La Dame offers up a unique mix of classicism and edginess as gorgeously styled by Dinta Jakile. DEW Magazine’s Political Issue cover

Magazine covers are often beautiful or glossy or sexy, but it’s not that often that they’re haunting. Dew Magazine’s (dewmagazine.blogspot.com) 7th issue takes on a rather serious topic, going by the by-line of The Political Issue. This ghostly photo of crowned model Andrey was photographed by Anton Ismael.

Alchemy in the New World

Inspired by the elements, by precious metals, by transformation… Alchemy, a shoot by Hilarius Jason for issue 6 of DEW Magazine – the ‘New World’ issue – takes the ancient branch of philosophy and visualises it into a beautiful fashion shoot. Gold is represented in Baroque ornamentation, embroidery and jewels. Bold accessories, styled by Rahajeng Puspitasari, are in some shots superseded by painted skin –…

Dew Magazine’s New World cover

DEW Magazine’s latest issue is themed New World. Editor Teuku Ajie explains that it’s all about “clashing cultures, aesthetics and lifestyles that fuse at the point of impact.” But while the cover shot has a dark, almost melancholic feel – with model Natalia Andriyasova decked out in Gothic styling and posed with hand obscuring her face – it’s by no means presenting a bleak view…

5 makeup tutorial videos from Treats

We know Treats! as a quarterly dose of tasteful erotica, a return to something more than raw nudity yet an open and transparent celebration of sex and skin. In that regard it’s a reflection of the times. But what of the work that goes into the beauty aspect behind the scenes? The shortage (or complete absence) of clothing surely doesn’t mean beauty goes neglected. Treats!…
