Frida Gustavsson rocks H&M

Topped by a barrel-wave of rockabilly hair, Frida Gustavsson stars in the summer 2012 look book from high street chain H&M. It’s a particularly enticing collection for anyone bitten by the ’50s bug; vintage influences melded with sporty, modern silhouettes and fabrics. On top of my personal want list: sporty panelled crop tops in high-sheen finish and structured cropped bustiers.

Rodarte casting call video is surprisingly entertaining

See the words ‘casting call’ in a video title and you expect some fairly inane content of models saying their names, their agencies, and maybe walking back and forth a few times. I know that’s what I was expecting of this Rodarte casting call video. But I was pleasantly surprised, not to mention highly entertained. Who would have thought that asking models some simple questions…

Wearing the sunshine: Frida Gustavsson

Another day and another off-duty model street style. Models just know how to strike their best, don’t they? Frida Gustavsson‘s sunflower yellow shift dress is an inspiration from the 1950s, while her bumblebee sunglasses take us to the Swinging Sixties. The motorcycle leather jacket and suede boots contribute more fuel to the burning style fire.

Glamour from the Gaultier archives

With dramatic makeup against Frida Gustavsson‘s porcelain skin and equally dramatic outfits from Jean Paul Gaultier’s archive, there was no need for decorative backdrops in this editorial for Stil Magazine. Instead, the utter starkness of the white background is the perfect compliment. Against it Frida can traverse the eras; moving from glamorous dress to glamorous dress, from echoes of the 1920s to the type of…

The next supermodel

The notion of the next top model has long made for good television viewing, all the while having close to no impact on who really becomes a top model. The Natasha Polys and the Arizona Muses of the world didn’t grow strong careers through stints on reality TV. What then will influence who really becomes one of the models who’ll capture our attention and spur…

Forties film noir: style inspiration

Fur and the forties and art deco dames. It won’t be any surprise that US Vogue’s greatest weapon, Grace Coddington, was behind the styling on this period piece of a shoot. And what a way to cement fur as a fall 2011 trend? There’s one of Gucci’s coloured fur pieces in lilac; there’s a boat-necked piece with fur trim; and there’s this Miu Miu dress…

Frida’s charm

Frida Gustavsson, snapped here during New York fashion week, looks toned down yet no less striking with her suit blazer, wide leg pants and wedged shoes. If you’re not on your way to work or the office but still want to wear a suit, the sleek bag, toned down collar and heavy eye make up will make this outfit fit for sleek casual day wear.

Frida Gustavsson: simply captivating

There is a reason why Frida Gustavsson is constantly photographed off duty, in this case while exiting the Prabal Gurung show. Not only does she look captivating wearing a navy cloak and leopard print ruffled dress, but she does so with a distinct warmth and fun energy.

Rebecca Minkoff: urban appeal

Should I mention “gypsy fashion” it’s likely that a vision of the last incarnation of the trend will materialise in your to mind. At least, that was the case for me and so I carried this false assumption with me to Rebecca Minkoff’s fall 2011 showing at New York fashion week, having been previously informed that ‘gypsy’ is the collection’s underlying theme. My imagined picture…
