Seeing double: a mirage in 3D

Michael David Adams‘ Mirage is less the kind you see in a heat-stricken desert delirium, and more the kind that’ll have you reaching for the 3D glasses you stole from the movies. Models Ieva and Aida Aniulyte similarly have you questioning whether you’re seeing double; and you are, in a sense, the sisters leaping from the screen in their identical pristine-featured beauty looks. Along with…

How to dress like Ryan Gosling

If there is a guy out there who can effortlessly transcend being good looking, with being even better looking in a matter of months, than his name must definitely be Ryan Gosling. The actor, producer, musician and style icon is clearly a man of many talents and sporting a flawless aesthetic on top of it all, on and off-screen doesn’t hurt either. Ladies adore him…

Strange beauty and haunting imagery from Emerson

Suggestively entitled “Iconic Horror Films”, Emerson’s spring 2013 collection, as envisioned by designer Jackie Fraser-Swan, gets its original inspiration from a selection of iconic 1970s and modern-day horror movies. The unusual dark theme that serves as a departure point for the exquisite collection, gently infused itself in the Emerson spring/summer 2013 campaign as well. Fusing Fraser-Swan’s signature aesthetic with a series of haunting motifs, the…

Dragmag’s Paranormal issue: strange but true

The strange premise for the movie The Brain That Wouldn’t Die – about a demented scientist who keeps his wife’s decapitated head alive after a car crash – was the unlikely inspiration for Dragmag’s second issue cover. The whole issue in fact pays tribute to the paranormal, to ’60s sci-fi movies and occult books, and ‘strange but true’ stories.

Angelic bridalwear from Karen Willis Holmes

Wedding dresses, the one thing that every woman on the planet cannot help but swoon, smile and sometimes break out in hives over (the latter is an exaggeration). The Karen Willis Holmes 2013 campaign is by far the most fairy-tale evoking collection for next season. The bright whipped cream tulle cascading down into trains of all lengths remind us of those silent movies where costumes,…

To that from whence we came

When we go to the movies, we like our films to have a strong, coherent narrative. That’s notwithstanding the more recent trend towards “Chaos Cinema”, the clanging, choppy, rapidly-cut buckets of sensory overload that have come to plague action movies and anything Michael Bay puts his name to. Chaos Cinema may rake in the box-office gold, but it’s also often at the expense of narrative.…

The dark, handsome hero in Schon! Magazine

You can imagine your own story for this one: an equine companion, a great journey, and a dark, handsome hero. German model Eugen Bauder is the stuff of WWII-era movies in great coats and bomber jackets, and yet – with Laurent Dombrowicz’s styling – the hint of another era is created by a mood more so than specific costuming.

Gatsby flapper frocks are actually by Prada

Before it was just announced in US Vogue, the fact had gone largely unknown: Miuccia Prada was behind the sparkling 1920s dresses in the upcoming The Great Gatsby film. Prada created 40 dresses – which were actually reworkings of pieces in the Prada and Miu Miu archive – in collaborated with the film’s head of wardrobe, Catherine Martin.
