I’m seldom a ‘one season wonder’ buyer. While I’m all for an exploration of fashion trends as a means of letting one renew and refresh their personal style (and lifestyle), investing in statement styles that look as if they won’t last more than a single season is something I’d rather not do. Such is my belief in the curated wardrobe that when I invest I want to do so properly, and that means buying good quality fashion pieces that I can wear well beyond their ‘shelf date’. So it is that, while I love their visual appeal, I’m yet to invest in any pairs of the thick soled men’s shoes that are currently and decidedly in fashion. I’m simply not certain how long their appeal will last – will the calendar flick over to 2012 and herald in a year where the raised sole is a faux pas?
Would that be the case, this pair of derbys form Our Legacy would buck the rebuttal. They’d turn their nose at any suggestion that a thick sole is an unfashionable one.
Perhaps that’s because their not as thick as other statement-sole shoes available to men this season. They certainly don’t strike me as as obviously thick as Burberry Prorsum’s seasonal offerings, though there is certainly something to be said for the visual similarities between them and Prada’s trend-defining exploration of the style.
Crafted in the United Kingdom, the Our Legacy derby shoes pair calf leather with a thick, crepe sole. They’re available from Tres Bien.
