Men’s summer shoe statement: the weave

A men's shoe can be a statement piece too - but that doesn't mean it has to be over the top. A textured finish like a leather weave adds volumes to your outfit for the spring / summer season. After the break, different styles that are on trend in 2012, how to wear them, and where to nab yourself a winning pair.

Prada’s Chelsea boot for the new season

Many a chap has long benefited from the cut of footwear known as the Chelsea boot. Smart and sometimes with a dandy overtone, their raised sole can give one a few extra centimetres in statue – something much coveted by a lot of men even if they won’t readily admit it. Prada’s autumn / fall 2011 interpretation of the boot are currently doing the rounds.

One season, Our Legacy

I’m seldom a ‘one season wonder’ buyer. While I’m all for an exploration of fashion trends as a means of letting one renew and refresh their personal style (and lifestyle), investing in statement styles that look as if they won’t last more than a single season is something I’d rather not do. Such is my belief in the curated wardrobe that when I invest I…

Vans x Hermes

FYI, this isn’t an official Hermes / Vans collaboration. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean it isn’t cool. Whilst collaborations seem to still be fashion’s way forward – cue Lanvin x H&M, Sportsgirl x Antipodium, Jil Sander x UNIQLO – custom made products can be sometimes be even better. Robert Verdi would know; as a super stylish stylist, with designers on speed-dial, take note of his latest…

Indulge: Acne Mission Polish lace ups

If you’re a regular reader of Fashionising.com then you’ll be no stranger to the fact that we adore much of what Swedish fashion house Acne Studios produces, particularly their shoes. While that generally sees us concentrate on their women’s offering, their Cypress boots the latest to catch our eye, the minimalist contours and traditional overtones of their Mission Polish lace ups are certainly worth remarking…

Urban rider

For all their untarnished perfection, there’s a commanding quality to these boots. They make me think of a young Johnny Cash, crushed cigarette butts underneath a heavy heel, biker rebelliousness, and teddy boy hairstyles. I can’t say whose feet they’re on, or even who designed them (if you know, please leave a comment below) – just that they’d work so well for girls as well…

Travel shoe shine kit

A fair part of Fashionising.com’s Christmas gift guide this year has included gifts perfect for the travelling fashioniser. And here’s another. Tucked away in a black leather case is most everything the gentleman and lady traveller alike could need to maintain their footwear on a jaunt; open the kit’s clasp and the necessities of polish, both black and clear, a brush, cloth and shoe horn…

Herring men’s slippers: daily discovery

Men’s slippers have been something of a trend of late. I say something purposefully: it’s a style that appeals to a certain type of chap, one with a dandyish quality, usually one with either a matured sense of the prep style or who adds an element of the revivalist into his wardrobe. And should you know such a chap who is yet to add a…

Ralph Lauren men’s motorcycle boots

Long before the advent of Internet shopping, or at least Internet shopping that could travel from the US to wherever I happened to be living at the time, Ralph Lauren featured men’s motorcycle boots amongst their Blue Label look book. I was besotted, and tracking down a pair in an equal shade of tan locally proved quite the endeavour. But it was one with plenty…
