It's simple, classic and hard to get wrong. Black and white can be worn so many ways - from casual to corporate to red carpet.
Nicole Richie recently did the casual thing wearing a black and white top with a long black skirt. Claudia Schiffer went a little to the mod side, while Katie Holmes was spotted out shopping in a classic white shirt and black skirt (though she failed to funk it up a bit, and it would have been better suited to the office.)
So how could Katie have made her outfit a bit more interesting and a bit less job-interview? Accessorise. Like Claudia's gold bangle, or Nicole's leopard print bag, a bit of detail goes a long way to take a classic white shirt from drab to debonair.
