Oversized Bows: Spring/Summer 2009 Trend

They were on the Fall/Winter 2009 runways if you looked hard enough; but it was with the Spring/Summer collections that bows really reached trend status for 2009.

Bows: Spring/Summer 2009 TrendBows on the runways of Chanel, Moschino, Lela Rose, United Bamboo, and Marchesa.

Who designed it

Not necessarily tacked on as an accessory, many of the bows for Spring/Summer 2009 were woven into the garments in interesting ways, making them part of the structure, rather than a mere embellishment. Chanel come out with some traditional uses of bows, while the likes of Marchesa opted for origami bow pieces. Lela Rose got their bow features just right – feminine, yet sassy.

How to wear it

Any way. There’s not too many ways to get this wrong; whether an oversized feature or simple ribbon, a bow can add a nice touch to many an outfit this Spring.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
