Stars: 2008 fashion trend

Written by Tania Braukamper

We already mentioned the star motif in our list of jewellery trends to buy in 2008. And, if you've had your eyes open, you'd have noticed that star shapes have been on everything from clothes to shoes to belts.

The star trend on the runway: Chanel and YSL S/S 2008

For their Spring / Summer 2008 collection, Chanel used star-spangled prints contrasted by American flag-style red and white stripes. Yves Saint Laurent's collection was another one to use stars prolifically, adorning shoes, belts and necklaces with big, bold cut-out stars.

Stars give a feeling of childlike innocence and wonder; but can be made to look either cute or kitschy. In 2008 mix them with elements of sophistication to ensure they stay the former and don't venture too far into the latter.

There aren't too many alpha-females out there and, though she might deny it, Tania Braukamper certainly exudes their qualities. A keen eye, a focused approach, and a wardrobe spanning three rooms have made her one of the savviest of dressers. But it's not all couture for Tania, earning her fashionista credentials she'll frequently be seen on the town in a one-off, vintage dress and a pair of Gucci heels.

She says: Vintage will never go out of style
We say: Does that include vintage 80s?
