Pants for the evening: strictly masculine, effortlessly feminine

When looking forward to couture week, we more than often tend to dream about impressive gowns first, while patiently waiting to see how heavy embellishments, delicate handmade appliques and light-as-air fabrics take over the runway. For as far as we used to know, at least two weeks out of the entire year were dedicated to supreme femininity, delicacy and extravagance. But stories change and as fashion tends to applaud innovation, even couture got to make an arresting turn and embrace quite an opposite direction.

The spring 2013 couture runways served as the first clear sign that some rules got broken and that the game was about to change. Still filled with dramatic garments, the main collections also introduced a selection of outstanding pants for the evening, having girls borrow from the boys yet again. Under constant evolution, the androgyny fashion made a pretty big step towards conquering the fashion industry as a whole.

Pants for the evening: breaking the rules on the runway

As nothing is what it seems anymore, putting on a nice pair of pants for a fancy night out will sooner than later become a healthy habit, reenforcing a woman’s comfort and exuding a quiet confidence, the kind that is so irresistible when played right. As the styling possibilities seem endless, it’s still the runway where we keep seeking inspiration and outfit interpretations, especially as the evening wear became even cooler.

Over at Alexandre Vauthier, the spring 2013 haute couture presentation was keen on highlighting pants as a luxurious alternative for glamorous dresses and the results came across young, fresh and above all, sexy. Mostly black, impeccably tailored and paired to sophisticated tops, Vauthier’s pants felt right for the night.

With a focus on extraordinary craftsmanship, Alexis Mabille’s idea of a gentle transition towards evening had delicate separates join forces, as in a pair of tapered pants paired to a dreamy organza peplum top, accented by lace appliques and covered in the most striking coral, blush and dusted pink tones.

Part of the darkly-romantic Chanel spring 2013 couture collection, the chic pant-suit envisioned for evening appeared as rigorously constructed, yet easy and light in essence. Covered almost entirely in dark blue embroidery, the white ensemble felt ideal for a long summer night  celebration.

Raf Simons made it his absolute best intention to bring a sense of reality to couture and within his collection envisioned for the house of Dior that certainty gained perspective in the sleek pants, sometimes crafted with practical pockets, that walked down the couture runway much to everyone’s delight.

Giambatistta Valli made use of evening pants only to point towards a bigger and bolder couture statement. Worn under a matching and equally fascinating gown, pants became part of a whole, blurring even the tiniest line left separating masculinity and femininity, hardness and softness.

The Armani Prive spring 2013 haute couture presentation carried a hint of a distant oriental flavor while also paying tribute to pants as an evening must. The collection resembled an explosion of strict and shiny silhouettes, accompanied by an equally impressive array of fitted jackets made out of mikado satin.

Almost exclusively white and covered in hundreds of sparkling sequins, Maurizio Galante’s skinny pants for evening were styled with matching tops, strappy sandals and a selection of coats and jacket that added a much needed element of diversity to the monochromatic couture picture.

Beautifully embellished and perfused with the most luxurious metallic gold undertones, Oscar Carballo’s delicate take on the jumpsuit introduced during his spring 2013 couture collection was maybe the closest translation of a sophisticated evening gown that we got to witness on the runway this season.

Shaped by all things beautiful and feminine, Nicoleta Parascan’s first steps towards entering the captivating world of fashion were taken somewhere around the young age of six, when she received her very own first fashion magazine. Discovering an entirely new universe, filled with pretty ladies and beautiful clothes, there was not much able to ever beat or compete with the fantasy land that was suddenly opening up. Surrounded by books, constantly thinking about the next best outfit, in search of a signature style and defined by a nostalgic calling towards the past, Nicoleta believes in taking chances, in destiny and in building her own path in life. When she’s not writing, you can easily find her playing with her cat, reading an old book, watching movies, exploring the city or blogging her own daily adventures.
