Japanese inspired.

Looking for a flavour of the Orient for your spring 2014 makeup look? Disclosing an extreme Japanese inspiration, a touch of graphic eyeliner and a nearly bared face were the main elements to have shaped the beauty look at Missoni spring 2014. The winged cat-eye makeup was reversed to flick toward the eye’s inner corners for an unmistakably mod-attitude. Created by makeup artist Lucia Pieroni, the graphic eyes at Missoni were Japanese in essence, but they were defined by a rounded-down shape.

Dramatic triangles.

At Anthony Vaccarello, Tom Pécheux reimagined innocent looking eyes with the use of generous graphic eyeliner. You can make the look your own in much the same way that Pecheux designed it: the large triangle that floated away from the eye was created with as a stencil by cutting into a plastic sheet protector using an X-Acto knife to ensure uniformity. You’ll want to match the geometric eye liner with thickened eyebrows as well; they were envisioned to bring an overall balance to the face.

Cubist eye makeup.

Pecheux’s geometric makeup wasn’t limited to Anthony Vaccarello. Tom also created the cube-inspired eye makeup that rounded out Derek Lam’s spring 2014 showing. Cleverly designed as a day-to-night-to-dawn makeup look, the boxy twist to this take on the classic cat eye underwent three changes every time it went out onto the catwalk. The offcast use of mascara was also intended for things to look powerful, yet extremely minimal.

Strong, definite black eye.

Where rock and roll meets the more romantic vibes of Hache’s spring 2014 collection, makeup artist Val Garland created a strong, definite black eye to complement its appeal. The “teddy boy meets the tough chic” look with a graphic eye can be created by smudging black cream along the lower lash lines. Once done, you’ll need to create two stripes on the upper eye lid — one along the lashes and the other just under your eye sockets. The upper eyeliner line should go past the inner and outer corners of your eye so as to create double wings on both sides.

Hollow, exaggerated cat eye.

How do you make the classic cat-eye modern?

Lucia Pica from the M.A.C Pro Team created an updated version of the cat eye by working the making an extraordinary geometric statement of it at Roksanda Ilincic spring 2014. The daring black eyeliner styled into a innovative feline flick is where the beauty look focuses its entire attention. Feminine but ultra-modern, the exaggerated cat eye was creating by using an eye pencil to create a hollowed-out shape. Despite the linear overtones of this season’s geometric trend, you’ll note that spring 2014’s exaggerated cat eye keeps its feline curvature, rising gracefully under each eyebrow.

If you’re looking for an exaggerated cat eye that isn’t hollow, look to our tutorial on Lanvin’s dramatic cat eyes.

Winged graphic eyeliner.

In the same vein as the exaggerated cat eye, Zadig & Voltaire spring 2014 showing was complemented by a simple and sweet winged geometric makeup look. Think the exaggerated cat eye toned down when you recreate it. Again use an eye pencil, but keep the lines wholly within the socket keeping the overall finish short and tight. This interpretation of the trend works best upon a fresh face, the overall makeup little more than a blush-enhanced version of the season’s nude look.
