Spring / summer 2013 is just around the corner and while it is easy to get lost in a sea of light and feminine colors there is still a grungier and tougher alternative when it comes to makeup: kohl rimmed eyes. Out of all the makeup trends this spring 2013, this look is dark and edgier making it perfect if you want to stand out.
Winged out, clean eyeliner on the top lid has become a staple in women’s makeup as this highlights the shape of the eyes but for this season, dark and smudgy also makes a statement. Kohl rimmed eyes can be done in different ways. Whether you go all the way around your eyes or just the top or bottom, this smoldering look is one you should try.
To help your through this trend, here are some kohl rimmed eye looks we spotted on the different fashion week shows.
Choosing to outline the lower lash line was 3.1 Philip Lim. The upper lids were done with a light almost neutral color creating a balance between light and dark, grungy and girly.

One of the designers that decided to go all out with Kohl rimmed eyes was BCBG Max Aria. Kohl was placed around the eyes, specifically on the waterlines and then smudge to get that smoking effect. This effectively drew attention to the eyes and not to mention worked well with the collection. You can check out the full how-to guide for the grungy black eyeliner look by following that link.

Dolce and Gabbana’s Spring 2013 collection featured bright colors and a boho chic vibe. To complement this, Kohl was effectively used to create a soft and smokey winged line on the top lashes.

A streamlined Lanvin collection was given a stronger look with Kohl. The eyes were rimmed in a way that made them darker on the outer corners of the eyes, fading or smoking out as the line moved towards the inner corner. This is done on both top and lower lashes.

Streamlined and elegant are words best to describe the Roberto Cavalli spring / summer 2013 collection. To staty true to this and yet keep an edgy vibe in the beauty look, the eyes were done in brown eye shadow and then rimmed with kohl.

Going all out smoldering and sultry was Versace. The eyes were thickly rimmed in kohl both in the upper and lower eyelids. To add more impact, the kohl was smudged and a bit of white eye shadow was added to the inner corner of the eyes.

As tempting as it may be to just stick with the spring / summer colors we are accustomed to, it’s always nice to try something that’s unique or out of the box. Kohl pencil is a good trend for this season because it gives us a chance to be more on the sexier side of the spectrum as opposed to being just the sweet, girly and preppy spring person.
