Embellished Headbands Trend

Written by Tania Braukamper on 16.06.07

The other day we posted about the turban to headband trend evolution - the theory being that a trend has started for headbands to be worn over the top of the hair.

Jessica Simpson's Louis Vuitton Obsession

Written by Paula Teixeira on 30.05.07

Jessica Simpson loves her Louis Vuitton bags. It seems like Jessica has at least one bag from every leather collection the French fashion house make, except for the Epi leather collection.

We've created a whole new article for 2008's sunglasses trends. Read it here.

Sunglasses Trends in 2007

Oliver Peoples, under head designer Larry Leight, are often credited for the resurgence of the oversized-sunglasses trend. So what can we learn from pieces in their most recent collection?

Sunglasses Trends - Rayban Wayfarers

Written by Tania Braukamper on 04.05.07
If you were a fan of Madonna in the 80s, or even better Tom Cruise in Risky Business, then you won't have let the Ray-Bans revival escape you. The classic 'Wayfarer' style sunglasses became a celebrity staple in 2007 and a sunglasses trend in 2008, with Sienna Miller, the Olsen Twins, Nicole Ritchie and others regularly stepping out in them.

A/W 07-08 Trends: Above-The-Knee Socks

Written by Tania Braukamper on 30.04.07

They used to just be those things you put on to keep your feet warm. But in Autumn / Winter 07-08 the trend towards socks as fashion has definitely risen to the fore. Though opaque tights have remained big on the winter runways, there's also been a much wider range of striking legwear.

Thick, woolen socks worn slouched up at the thigh have been making their mark in black, charcoal and oatmeal shades; while opaque version of the above-the-knee sock have added a more interesting take than plain cotton. Other accessories like slouchy woolen leg-warmers and sparkly tights are variations on the trend.

Trend Report: Shiny / Metallic Leggings

Written by Tania Braukamper on 19.04.07

For Autumn / Winter 07 - 08 the leggings trend was brought well into the future... forget the plain black cotton! Leggings, tights, pants and boots alike were livened up by shiny metallics and rubbery skin-hugging materials.

Glove Trends: Autumn / Winter 07 - 08

Written by Tania Braukamper on 15.04.07

Long, mid-length or short; leather, suede or wool; plain or studded, feathered or furred, fingerless or full. Gloves graced the catwalk in almost every possible way throughout the Autumn / Winter collections.

So how to wear them? Perhaps the most important lesson when it comes to glove trends this season is this: forget the boring old gloves and make a statement.

Fluoro bandaid stuck to your forehead

Written by Daniel P Dykes on 13.04.07

This is possibly the strangest street trend I've come across since I encountered a few people walking each other on leashes... but I digress - the latest 'thing' to hit Melbourne streets are Fluoro bandaids stuck to one's forehead.

I kid you not, today I witnessed not one, but two tweens walking the streets with the brightest bandaids ever to be produced (in fact so bright, I think they may have been irradiated at Chernobyl) plastered to their heads.

Men's Bag Fashion in Tokyo

Written by Paula Teixeira on 20.03.07

Pingmag asked trend hunter Rene Kurita to go to the fashionable neighbourhoods of Tokyo to document "men wearing (women's) handbags, pocketbooks and soft purses."

Rene says:

Why do boys wear bags at all? All you need is money, keys, phone - right? Pockets in your jeans will do? Wrong! One obvious reason is practicability here! If you ever lived in Tokyo, one thing is for sure: everybody spends a lot of time travelling on the train from home to the centre of things (think about the greater metropolitan area of Tokyo - this is not Paris!). That's why people might not come home after work before sports or party activities (and some won't even come home for days...).

Giambattista Valli Joins Designer Phone Trend

Written by Former Member on 25.02.07

Fashionista reports:

"The list of designers with cell phones just got longer: Italian virtuoso Giambattista Valli will get his own roaming signal at Paris Fashion Week, thanks to Nokia.

Mr. Valli follows Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Diane Von Furstenberg, Betsey Johnson, and Baby Phat in designing a new phone and accessories. The phone comes in black or pink, with a satin bow-sewn case and a silver skull charm to dangle from the antenna. It debuts before the Valli show in Paris, and will retail for about $300 in Europe (and eventually, of course, here).
