But in Autumn / Winter 07-08 the trend towards socks as fashion has definitely risen to the fore. Though opaque tights have remained big on the winter runways, there's also been a much wider range of striking legwear. Thick, woolen socks worn slouched up at the thigh have been making their mark in black, charcoal and oatmeal shades; while opaque version of the above-the-knee sock have added a more interesting take than plain cotton. Other accessories like slouchy woolen leg-warmers and sparkly tights are variations on the trend.
Trend Report: Shiny / Metallic LeggingsFor Autumn / Winter 07 - 08 the leggings trend was brought well into the future... forget the plain black cotton! Leggings, tights, pants and boots alike were livened up by shiny metallics and rubbery skin-hugging materials.
Glove Trends: Autumn / Winter 07 - 08Long, mid-length or short; leather, suede or wool; plain or studded, feathered or furred, fingerless or full. Gloves graced the catwalk in almost every possible way throughout the Autumn / Winter collections. So how to wear them? Perhaps the most important lesson when it comes to glove trends this season is this: forget the boring old gloves and make a statement. Fluoro bandaid stuck to your foreheadThis is possibly the strangest street trend I've come across since I encountered a few people walking each other on leashes... but I digress - the latest 'thing' to hit Melbourne streets are Fluoro bandaids stuck to one's forehead. I kid you not, today I witnessed not one, but two tweens walking the streets with the brightest bandaids ever to be produced (in fact so bright, I think they may have been irradiated at Chernobyl) plastered to their heads. Men's Bag Fashion in TokyoPingmag asked trend hunter Rene Kurita to go to the fashionable neighbourhoods of Tokyo to document "men wearing (women's) handbags, pocketbooks and soft purses."
Rene says: Why do boys wear bags at all? All you need is money, keys, phone - right? Pockets in your jeans will do? Wrong! One obvious reason is practicability here! If you ever lived in Tokyo, one thing is for sure: everybody spends a lot of time travelling on the train from home to the centre of things (think about the greater metropolitan area of Tokyo - this is not Paris!). That's why people might not come home after work before sports or party activities (and some won't even come home for days...). |
