Shorts and knits? Shorten it!

Written by GODandShopping on 23.01.08

One of the good advantages of living in the southern hemisphere is adopting the European summer looks months before they hit the stores in Paris, Milan, Berlin etc. Of course Melbourne has its own unique looks for this summer such as err... whatever it is they wear for overdosing on speed. I'm guessing Everlast singlet and fluro-green trunks. But the point is, why not follow suit of some Melbournians and give your "CBF it's too hot" shorts and tee combo a bit of a runway spin to it.

The unsung Suh Sang (Young)

Written by GODandShopping on 17.01.08

Melbourne's heat wave may be too intense for some indoor barbecue bulgogi, but there is definitely something frying up in Korea.

My initial concept of Korean men's fashion was surmised from YouTube videos of hip hop bands and your garden variety of label whoring international students clogging up Collins St during Boxing Day sales. This was changed after befriending a like-minded Dior Homme addict from Korea, who introduced me to some of the most innovative fashion you could ever hope for.

Metallics for men: Adrien Brody

Written by Tania Braukamper on 06.10.07

We've seen much in the way of the metallics trend for women, from metallic ballet flats and metallic heels, to metallic leggings. But for men, the trend hasn't taken off nearly as much.

In fact, away from the runway, we haven't seen much of metallics on men at all. That is, until Adrien Brody wore a full silver metallic suit to the premiere of The Darjeeling Limited - a move not many male celebrities would be bold enough to attempt.

Wonderjock Budgy Smugglers

Written by Ren on 14.05.07

Just when you thought speedos would never be cool again, there came along the Wonderjock. AussieBum has sold over 250,000 pairs of budgy smugglers that lift and promote in a similar way to the wonder bra, with a special pouch inbuilt.

This has comforted many men and has seen the underwear style briefs soar in popularity. However while the bathers are made in Australia, they have primarily been sold in the UK and Europe.

Wonderjocks are sold for $32.95 each and have been worn by Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter fame), and Ewan McGregor.

Suits of the Season

Written by Ren on 26.04.07

This year the D&G fall show for menswear combined sports with glamour, opening up the possibility for men to mix and match styles as they please. The unique combination of runners with velvet jackets and fur coats was just one of the many adaptations to the suit that designers have created this season.

Dior Homme has taken a more conservative approach with their suit variation, using knits and elongated sleeves to enhance their designs.

Pantihose for Men? Mon Dieu!

Written by Daniel P Dykes on 10.02.07

The Brit in me requires that I highlight a French company is behind this.

Gerbe, a French hosiery maker, is launching a new line of hosiery in March - pantihose for men. With an open front and larger feet, the pantihose will be available in "mannish knit but also as sheer tights". Did you like that? 'Mannish' pantihose.

Gerbe are launching the line because of "increasing demand from male clients". Only they won't say if these clients have some kind of fetish, or whether the pantihose will indeed be available on high street.

We implore you never to buy them, no matter how 'mannish' you find them.

Futuristic Fashion & Haute Couture

Written by Ren on 01.02.07

Dolce and Gabanna led Milan's men's fashion week with the reinvention of the space aged suit. Abrasive golds and sharp silvers were the common feature colours which presented themselves throughout the show.

There was no dispute about the entertainment value of the designs with jaw dropping creations stunning audiences, however were the designs impractical and if so, why dress models in clothing that the normal man cant wear? Melbourne-based radio station 3AW argued this point by dressing a man in space aged attire, parading him around Melbourne and asking onlookers whether they would wear the bold designs.

Are these looks what men have in store?

Written by Daniel P Dykes on 01.08.06

Fashion Weekly Daily think they might have a crystal ball when it comes to the future of men's fashion. After covering last week's ENK Collective they've put together a list of what they see as the forthcoming trends in men's clothing.

* Slickly styled corporate-chic inspiration from the 80's "Greed is Good" era.
* A move toward tailored clothing mixed in a casual way. The jacket is strong again, and tailored pants are replacing denim... Casting back to the Rat Pack days, men are once again dressing up to go out.
* Inspiration of '60s sharp tailoring and Technicolor glam. See films Get Carter, Escape from Alcatraz, and Harlequin.
* From head to toe, it's still all about linen. There was a tremendous trend towards shorts and woven shirts picking up over knits again.
* The color thing is calming down now; it's all very soft and neutral.
