One of the good advantages of living in the southern hemisphere is adopting the European summer looks months before they hit the stores in Paris, Milan, Berlin etc. Of course Melbourne has its own unique looks for this summer such as err... whatever it is they wear for overdosing on speed. I'm guessing Everlast singlet and fluro-green trunks. But the point is, why not follow suit of some Melbournians and give your "CBF it's too hot" shorts and tee combo a bit of a runway spin to it.

Leather jackets have been a popular celebrity trend for a while now, and we're confident they won't be dying out any time soon.
Blonde popette Ashley Tisdale is the latest celebrity to rock the leather jacket trend, over a grey strapless dress, for her video 'He Said, She Said'.

If there was a celebrity we wish wasn't wearing 2008's sheer / nude fashion trend it would have to be Amy Winehouse.
We already mentioned the star motif in our list of jewellery trends to buy in 2008. And, if you've had your eyes open, you'd have noticed that star shapes have been on everything from clothes to shoes to belts.

The star trend on the runway: Chanel and YSL S/S 2008
For their Spring / Summer 2008 collection, Chanel used star-spangled prints contrasted by American flag-style red and white stripes. Yves Saint Laurent's collection was another one to use stars prolifically, adorning shoes, belts and necklaces with big, bold cut-out stars.
Melbourne's heat wave may be too intense for some indoor barbecue bulgogi, but there is definitely something frying up in Korea.
My initial concept of Korean men's fashion was surmised from YouTube videos of hip hop bands and your garden variety of label whoring international students clogging up Collins St during Boxing Day sales. This was changed after befriending a like-minded Dior Homme addict from Korea, who introduced me to some of the most innovative fashion you could ever hope for.

Some more from the growing fur trend:

Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen both snapped wearing brown fur coats recently.

Sheer fabric is in; and along with comes a new take on underwear-as-outerwear.
In recent memory, any trends towards underwear-inspired garments have had their basis in corsetry. In 2008, bodices and boning have given way to free-flowing pieces that take their inspiration from delicately feminine lingerie styles. Camisoles, robes and slips are taking their place as everyday garments, drawing on the soft elegance of the 1930's.

If you've been reading Fashionising.com's tips for fashion trends in 2008 you'd know that there's barely a trend that hypermodel Kate Moss hasn't work or didn't start. Case in point: her recent editorial in the February 2008 issue of Vogue Nippon.

2007 was such a big year for hair trends that it's not too hard to see why so many hair trends in 2008 might feel familiar. While 2007 introduced us to the pob, it'll be its cousin the bob that we'll be wearing in 2008. And it's much the same story with the fringe trend: it was already with us at the start of 2007, had lost popularity by mid-year, but was brought back for 2008 by hypermodel Kate Moss in a completely new way.
This year hair trends will range from boy-short crops to natural long tresses, with bobs in-between. We'll also be wearing various shapes of feminine, masculine, and elegant to name but a few, all taking their cues from the same eras as their parent clothing trends. So read on to find out the hair trends you'll be wearing in 2008.
We've been going skinny for so long, the pendulum was bound to swing back the other way. In 2008 both wide-leg pants and flares (but more the skinny kind than the bell-bottom) are back.

As per the 1930s and 40s influences, wide-leg pants in 2008 are sophisticated and chic; waists work best a little higher and belted to avoid slouching in a sloppy way.
