Bill Cunningham at the NY Times wrote this cute little piece on the continuing trend of ballet shoes:
"The snow hadn't disappeared from the streets of New York and already the first trend of spring could be seen up and down Madison Avenue: the revival of flat ballet-style shoes. In the 1950s, they were a popular alternative to spindly high heels; designers of calf-length full skirts showed their fashions with ballet slippers made by Capezio. At the time, such shoes were not commercially available. But today many manufacturers produce variations of the ballet flat. Not to be outdone, a carriage horse in Central Park showed off its own spring shoes: hooves painted with purple glitter."
Elements of the 80s are definitely back in fashion...

Pingmag asked trend hunter Rene Kurita to go to the fashionable neighbourhoods of Tokyo to document "men wearing (women's) handbags, pocketbooks and soft purses."
Rene says:
Why do boys wear bags at all? All you need is money, keys, phone - right? Pockets in your jeans will do? Wrong! One obvious reason is practicability here! If you ever lived in Tokyo, one thing is for sure: everybody spends a lot of time travelling on the train from home to the centre of things (think about the greater metropolitan area of Tokyo - this is not Paris!). "The list of designers with cell phones just got longer: Italian virtuoso Giambattista Valli will get his own roaming signal at Paris Fashion Week, thanks to Nokia.
Mr. Valli follows Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Diane Von Furstenberg, Betsey Johnson, and Baby Phat in designing a new phone and accessories. The phone comes in black or pink, with a satin bow-sewn case and a silver skull charm to dangle from the antenna. It debuts before the Valli show in Paris, and will retail for about $300 in Europe (and eventually, of course, here).

The Brit in me requires that I highlight a French company is behind this.
Gerbe, a French hosiery maker, is launching a new line of hosiery in March - pantihose for men. With an open front and larger feet, the pantihose will be available in "mannish knit but also as sheer tights". Did you like that? 'Mannish' pantihose.
Gerbe are launching the line because of "increasing demand from male clients". Only they won't say if these clients have some kind of fetish, or whether the pantihose will indeed be available on high street.
We implore you never to buy them, no matter how 'mannish' you find them.
