Gwyneth Paltrow wears single shoulder trend

If you're looking to play to the shoulder trend in 2008 but aren't a fan of the accentuated shoulder trend, why not take Gwyneth Paltrow's lead and wear the single-shouldered fashion trend instead?

A major part of women's Spring-Summer 2008 fashion trends, the single-shouldered dress features a fish-net shoulder, black hatching, a ruffle hem, and a nude-coloured backing. It's one of Jean Paul Gaultier's mermaid-inspired gowns.

There's little doubt that Gwyneth Paltrow is on a major come-back trail. With her fresh new hairstyle, taunt and terrific figure, and sexed-up sense of style, her Ironman publicity tour is getting her lots of attention.

At the UK Charity Premiere of the film she was right on trend with a super-short mini-dress with sheer lace neckline (a nice take on this year's sheer trend), and a tuxedo-style jacket. And can you spot another trend?

Though dirty and platinum blondes are hair colour trends of 2008, we're not quite sure Lily Allen's latest effort fits the bill. She recently swapped her trademark dark, fringed hair-style for this bleached blonde 'do.

If nothing else, she does have the brightly coloured plastic frames on trend.

Fashion Inspirations: The Mermaid

Anyone who has read the original Hans Christian Andersen tale The Little Mermaid will know it wasn't all wedding bells and happy endings for Ariel, as Disney would have us believe. The Prince married the human Princess and Ariel died of a broken heart, throwing herself back into the sea to become part of it, and living as a sort of spirit that might some day redeem herself to become a soul.

The mermaid myth has long existed, influencing art and culture throughout time. Typically, the mermaid is pretty and gentle, with long hair and a sweet voice - she is deep and mysterious, and has an innocence which sets her apart from her darker and more seductive cousin, the Siren.

Eva Green wears the bright red lipstick trend

Fair skin, blue eyes, and bright red lips. Eva Green follows one of 2008's makeup trends, with a choice of lip colour that makes her look classic rather than vampish.

With just a touch of smoky eyeshadow around her lids, the lips are the focus, meaning the overall look isn't over the top.

Rachel Bilson: another celebrity fringe

I've lost count of how many celebrities, models and socialites have jumped onto the over-crowded bandwagon that is the fringe trend. All I know is, we can add Rachel Bilson to the list. And I have to say, she looks as cute as a button.

2008's fringe takes it's cues from Kate Moss' hair; thick, a bit messy, just-out-of-bed... too fine and the sex-kitten effect is lost. And so, Rachel's hair is perfect for it.

Bright red still a colour trend

We've been watching bright red for a while, in particular since this red number on Natalie Portman prompted me to consider adding more red to my wardrobe. The appearances of bright red dresses on the red carpets and even down the streets are still numerous.

Here are just three recent examples: Victoria Beckham, Kristen Cavallari, and Sadie Frost.
