They used to just be those things you put on to keep your feet warm. But in Autumn / Winter 07-08 the trend towards socks as fashion has definitely risen to the fore. Though opaque tights have remained big on the winter runways, there's also been a much wider range of striking legwear.
Thick, woolen socks worn slouched up at the thigh have been making their mark in black, charcoal and oatmeal shades; while opaque version of the above-the-knee sock have added a more interesting take than plain cotton. Other accessories like slouchy woolen leg-warmers and sparkly tights are variations on the trend.

It seems that everyone from Paris to Paris' dog Tinkerbell are wearing plaid and houndstooth this season.


The bold patterns have been becoming more and more popular thanks to designers such as Diane von Furstenberg who have used the striking designs on their runway more recently. Houndstooth prints are coming out now in both larger or smaller checks and are making a comeback since the original design became popular in the 1930's and then again in the 1970s.

This year the D&G fall show for menswear combined sports with glamour, opening up the possibility for men to mix and match styles as they please. The unique combination of runners with velvet jackets and fur coats was just one of the many adaptations to the suit that designers have created this season.

Dior Homme has taken a more conservative approach with their suit variation, using knits and elongated sleeves to enhance their designs.

A few people have recently been tolling the bell for the skinny jeans trends, on the way out they tell us. Joining them today is A Socialite's Life who says "about time". Their proof?

For Autumn / Winter 07 - 08 the leggings trend was brought well into the future... forget the plain black cotton! Leggings, tights, pants and boots alike were livened up by shiny metallics and rubbery skin-hugging materials.

This summer, get really romantic by adding flowers to clothes and accessories. Not just printed flowers, but 3 dimensional roses, that will appear "flower like", rather than just to decorate with. Designers like Thakoon, Rodarte and Marchesa use flowers to create the New Romantic Look.

Long, mid-length or short; leather, suede or wool; plain or studded, feathered or furred, fingerless or full. Gloves graced the catwalk in almost every possible way throughout the Autumn / Winter collections.
So how to wear them? Perhaps the most important lesson when it comes to glove trends this season is this: forget the boring old gloves and make a statement.
Despite the cries from lobby groups like PETA, the trend towards fur remains strong in the celebrity circuit. Whether real or faux - fur has been spotted on a number of big name trend-setters.
