All fashion trends are cyclical, and in recent years have gradually modernised the looks of the 20th Century and planted them firmly in the 21st. And so too it is with men's hair trends in 2009: it's out with the new, and in with the old. Or at least an old hair style with a new twist.

2009 sees men's hair styles fall into two distinct categories: school boy and rocker. But while the rocker look is certainly a 20th Century creation, the resulting hair style finds its roots (if you'll pardon the pun) distinctly in 19th Century Britain. And so it is in 2009; while the odd 2009 runway collection featured something akin to a grunge revival, the majority of us will live out 2009 with a refined, classically inspired hair cut.

Looking to pick the right colours for your wardrobe in Spring-Summer 2009? If the predictions we're seeing from both Pantone and TFL are anything to go by, expect a move away from metallic colours over to a much more earthy, subdued color palette. Indeed, such a colour palette is perfect for some of the 2009 fashion trends, such as the bohemian luxury Winter trend - but could they see the look transposed to the Summer season by way of the foho trend as well?
When we first mentioned Hayden Panettiere's new bob, like so many of 2008's hair trends it was met with plenty of approval. So here's another post about Hayden's hair - this time I think she looks even more stunning, wearing a sophisticated take on the red lipstick beauty trend.
When Anja Rubik, Natasha Poly, and Lily Donaldson all headed down the catwalk during Milan Fashion Week we realised there was one key look that would influence 2009 fashion trends above all others. Sure to become a staple for fashionisers everywhere it's the Bohemian Luxury fashion trend.
It's a luxury take on a bohemian look. Part peasant, part Cossack, part sex-goddess rock chic. And it's here for the colder months of 2008/2009 - largely thanks to an outstanding collection by Frida Giannini for Gucci's Fall (Autumn) / Winter 2008/2009 women's collection and men's collection.

Taking her hair style one step shorter, Katie Holmes has shortened her bob to a new pixie crop.
The crop is a tough one - it comes up a hair trend every once in a while, but not everyone can pull it off. If you ever even considered chopping off all your locks, now is definitely the time - the crop is high on the list of 2008's hair trends as well as 2009's hair trends.
If Katie Holmes' hairstyle shows us anything, it's how much of a difference styling can make to the crop. In 2008, it's best with a bit of length that can be messed up and tousled a bit - in the guise of effortless, boyish bed-hair. You only need to look at the following photos to see how much less effective the crop is when unstyled.
We've seen many manifestations of the sheer trend in 2008; some gorgeous, some questionable, and some downright shocking (if you want to see a list of them all, visit the main sheer trend article). Adriana Lima managed to make a sheer dress demure, yet still sexy, in a recent television appearance promoting Victoria's Secret.

Alexis Bledel attended the premiere of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 last week wearing the single-shouldered dress trend. Alexis teamed her black one-shouldered number with a gold clutch and black strappy heels.
More asymmetry. Heidi Klum looked sexy and sleek in a black one-shouldered dress, teaming it with an opposingly asymmetrical belt. The whole impression is of a zig-zag line from shoulder to waist and back to hem. The single-shouldered dress trend has really taken off this season and is still going strong. What do you think of Heidi's look?
Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Katie Holmes in The Dark Knight, and did a tremendous job. She's been out and about promoting the movie wearing a black jumpsuit, which basically epitomises what's hot about this year's backless trend. We're also totally digging her classically inspired hair.
When it comes to hair trends, 2008 has in many ways been year of The Bob. Selma Blair's promotional tour for Hellboy II has seen her step out with her chin-length bob in a number of different styles - none quite so charming as this jazz-age inspired side part.
